This section provides miscellaneous information related to GST. We have taken care to vet the data.

However given the multiple changes being proposed by the GST council, it is advised that the user double checks with the CBEC site and the latest notifications from the council.

To search and be 100% sure whether a GSTIN is valid or not, please visit this government link to validate GSTIN
GSTIN_format
  • Format explained e.g. 27 ABCDE1234M 1 Z U
  • The GSTIN is a 15 digit alpha numeric unique id
  • The first 2 digits 01..37 represent the various States and Union Territories of India.       List of State Codes    
  • The next 10 digits are the PAN number
    • Within the PAN number -- the first 5 digits are alphabets
    • The next four digits are numerals 0..9
    • The 10th digit is an alphabet A..Z (also the checksum for the PAN)
  • The 13th digit is a numeral starting from 1. It is the unit number for the given state
  • The 14th digit is reserved for future use and is currently always set to 'Z'
  • The last or the 15th digit is the check sum (0..9 and A..Z) -- the algorithm of which is given below.

There is also an api which allows technical users to validate whether a GSTIN is valid or not.

The regex (regular expression) for GSTIN is : /^[0-9]{2}[A-Z]{5}[0-9]{4}[A-Z]{1}[1-9A-Z]{1}Z[0-9A-Z]{1}$/
